Why your Ducati dashboard deserves more protection: the CNC Racing dashboard protector
A fallen motorcycle is bad enough. On a Ducati with an open cockpit, you want to prevent your Dashboard & Instrumentation from taking the impact as well. We look at how CNC Racing combines protection and design.
A fall is unpleasant enough as it is. Especially if your motorcycle takes an unfortunate tumble during a weekend away, you don't want a damaged Dashboard & Instrumentation unit to make the rest of your ride impossible. That's exactly why CNC Racing developed a Dashboard & Instrumentation protector for this vulnerable component. It does more than simply provide solid protection: it also gives the cockpit an exceptionally sleek, refined appearance.
Why protect the Dashboard & Instrumentation specifically?
On the Streetfighter V2 and Hypermotard V2, the Dashboard & Instrumentation unit is exposed and prominently positioned in the cockpit. That looks sporty, but it also means the instrument unit has relatively little protection if the motorcycle lands awkwardly. A minor slide doesn't have to be a major disaster; damage to the Dashboard & Instrumentation can certainly turn it into one.
The original Dashboard & Instrumentation unit is an expensive component. At present, expect to pay around €1,250 for the instrument unit, not including the labor required on the motorcycle. Replacing it is also not simply a matter of disconnecting a plug and connecting a new unit: the Ducati dealer must electronically pair the replacement Dashboard & Instrumentation and correctly register the mileage.
There is another reason to take this component seriously. The Dashboard & Instrumentation forms part of the electronics surrounding the immobilizer. If communication with the motorcycle is disrupted by serious damage, the motorcycle may no longer start. You are therefore protecting a component that is both expensive and essential to your ride.
A protective housing that also looks good
CNC Racing has milled and anodized the Dashboard & Instrumentation protector from solid aluminum. The housing fits around the instrument unit and gives it a sturdy surround. From the side, you can really see how deep the shape is and how much attention has gone into the milling details. It looks like a deliberately designed part of the cockpit, not an emergency solution added around it afterward.
At the front is a transparent, scratch-resistant Lexan window. It also shields the TFT display while keeping the information visible. Anyone who would otherwise install a separate screen protector to limit scratches gets that function here as part of the complete Dashboard & Instrumentation protector.
Especially effective on an open Ducati cockpit
The added value varies from motorcycle to motorcycle. On a Streetfighter V2 or Hypermotard V2, the instrument unit is exposed and prominently visible. There, this protector is both a logical precaution and a clearly visible upgrade. You hope you never need it after a fall, but if the motorcycle does tip over, any extra protection around the Dashboard & Instrumentation is welcome.
The Panigale V2 and V2S have full fairings, which already provide the cockpit with more protection. There, the emphasis is more on the high-quality finish, protecting the screen, and the milled detail visible from the saddle. CNC Racing has therefore created one design that fits different Ducatis, while the reason for choosing it may vary from one motorcycle to another.
Black or red: two very different accents
The black version keeps the cockpit technical and dark. The milled shape becomes noticeable when you look more closely, but it does not dominate the motorcycle. The red version immediately draws attention and can complement other red details in a Ducati build. The construction and protection are identical for both colors.
Installation and applications
The Dashboard & Instrumentation protector is mounted to the original mounting points. CNC Racing states that no modifications to the motorcycle are required. Both colors are available for the model generations listed below; choose the product page for your motorcycle and select black or red there.

A protector cannot predict how a motorcycle will land in a fall. What this CNC Racing cover does offer is a sturdy, specifically shaped housing around a vulnerable and expensive Dashboard & Instrumentation unit. That's a reassuring thought before you set off, and a component you can appreciate on every ride, even without an incident.
