Detailing Detailing Clay

Detailing clay for a smooth and thoroughly cleaned surface

Remove stubborn contamination that remains on paint, glass, and other smooth surfaces after a normal wash

Even after careful washing, the paint can still feel rough. Fallout rust, industrial deposits, brake dust, light overspray, and other stubborn contaminants adhere to the surface and don’t always come off with shampoo. With detailing clay, also called a clay bar, you remove this contamination and prepare the surface for polishing, wax, or paint sealing.

  • Removes stubborn contamination after washing
  • Makes paint and other suitable surfaces noticeably smoother
  • Ideal preparation for polish, wax, sealant, or coating
  • Available in different strengths for light and heavier contamination
  • Detailing clay from Chemical Guys, D-Con, and Monello

In this collection, you’ll find various types of detailing clay. A soft or light clay bar is suitable for light contamination and well-maintained vehicles. Stronger versions remove more stubborn contamination but can, depending on paint, use, and pressure, leave light marks more quickly.

Therefore, don’t automatically choose the strongest clay. When in doubt, start with a mild version and only use a stronger one if the contamination actually requires it.

Always use detailing clay with sufficient lubricant

Detailing clay should never be moved dry over the paint. Always use a suitable clay lube that forms a smooth layer between the clay and the surface. Without enough lubrication, the clay can catch and cause light streaks or micro-scratches.

Spray both the surface and the clay generously and work in straight lines with light pressure. Once the clay glides smoothly and without resistance over the surface, the stubborn contamination is largely removed.

Wash first, then clay

Wash the engine or car thoroughly before you start. Loose sand and street dirt must be completely removed first. If such a hard dirt particle gets into the clay, it can cause scratches.

Knead the clay regularly so a clean section comes to the outside. If the clay falls on the ground, do not use it again. Sand and dirt can remain deep in the material and cannot be reliably rinsed out.

CrashProtection after claying

After claying, the surface feels clean and smooth, but any existing wax or sealant may have been partially removed. Therefore, apply a suitable CrashProtection again after the treatment.

Check the paint beforehand and work on a cool surface out of direct sunlight. For sensitive or matte finishes, always check first whether claying is allowed by the manufacturer. When in doubt, test on a small, inconspicuous spot.
