Foam lances for a safe and thorough pre-wash

Loosen sand, dust, and street dirt before touching the paint with a wash mitt

A safe wash starts with removing as much loose and stubborn dirt as possible before the contact wash. With a foam lance, also called a foam cannon, you apply an even layer of snow foam over the engine or car. The foam then has time to loosen the dirt, after which you rinse it off along with a large part of the grime.

A foam lance does not fully replace hand washing. The goal is to safely loosen and rinse away as much dirt as possible beforehand. This leaves less sand and street dirt that can be moved over paint, carbon, or plastic during washing.

Check the connection of your pressure washer

Foam lances do not have a universal connection. Kärcher, Nilfisk, Kränzle, and other pressure washers may use different couplings. Always check the brand, series, and connection profile of your machine before ordering a foam lance.

Also pay attention to the water flow rate and operating pressure. The chosen nozzle affects how much water flows through the lance and how well the cleaning agent is drawn in. A wrong combination can result in thin foam or a pressure washer that does not work optimally.

Set foam thickness and mixing ratio

The thickest foam layer is not automatically the best cleaning. Effectiveness also depends on the product used, mixing ratio, water quality, and dwell time. Therefore, follow the dosage of the chosen snow foam and adjust the lance so that an even layer forms that stays on the surface long enough.

Apply the foam to a cooled vehicle and do not let it dry. Then rinse thoroughly from top to bottom. For heavy dirt, a second pre-wash may be necessary before continuing with a wash mitt and shampoo.

Maintenance for consistent foam quality

Rinse the foam lance with clean water after use. Otherwise, snow foam residues can dry in the nozzle, suction hose, or internal filter and reduce performance.

Regularly check the suction hose, coupling, and seals. Store the lance empty and frost-free. Combine the pre-wash with a clean wash mitt and the two- or three-bucket method to minimize the chance of micro-scratches and swirls during washing.
