Shield an exposed voltage regulator without completely blocking the necessary cooling airflow
The voltage regulator heats up during use and is therefore often mounted in a position with sufficient airflow. On some motorcycles, this means the regulator is relatively exposed to stones, insects, and road debris. A model-specific guard provides an extra barrier around this valuable electronic component.
This collection features Evotech Performance voltage regulator guards, also known as rectifier guards. The shape is tailored to the original regulator, the existing cooling fins, and the available mounting space.
For selected motorcycles, the guard is combined with a passenger footpeg replacement set. This construction then handles both the visual finishing of the subframe and the protection or mounting of the voltage regulator.
A voltage regulator must be able to dissipate the heat generated during regulation. Therefore, the guard must not completely cover the cooling fins.
An open grille or frame design blocks larger stones and debris while allowing airflow to continue past the regulator. Keep the openings clean and regularly remove accumulated dirt.
The mounting location is partly determined by heat dissipation, cable length, and available space. As a result, the component may be placed next to the frame, under the rear section, or close to the rear wheel.
In such a position, the regulator can collect more dirt and stone chips during daily use. A guard helps limit direct impact on the housing and cooling fins.
Check whether the product includes only a voltage regulator guard or is part of a more comprehensive set with cover plates or passenger footpeg replacements.
On motorcycles where the passenger footpeg works together with the regulator mounting, a specific combined construction may be necessary.
Always select the exact motorcycle model, version, and year of manufacture. The position, dimensions, and connector side of the voltage regulator can change during a model update.
After installation, ensure the guard does not press against the cooling fins, connectors, or wiring. Route cables away from sharp edges and regularly check that all fasteners are securely tightened.
