Carburettor Diaphragm

Carburetor Membranes for a Responsive Engine

Repair a damaged carburetor membrane and restore proper throttle slide response to engine vacuum

The carburetor membrane is an important part of a constant-vacuum carburetor. The flexible membrane helps move the throttle slide based on the pressure difference inside the carburetor. When the material tears, becomes porous, or no longer seals properly, the engine may respond poorly to the throttle, run irregularly, or lose power.

  • Replacement membrane for repairing the existing throttle slide
  • E10 gasoline-resistant version for compatible carburetors
  • Prevents the need to replace the entire throttle slide immediately
  • Suitable for various model-specific Honda applications
  • Supplied individually for one separate carburetor

This collection includes an E10 gasoline-resistant carburetor membrane for various older Honda motorcycles. The membrane is intended as a repair part for carburetors where the original rubber on the throttle slide can be removed and replaced.

The product is suitable for carburetors with a metal throttle tube and some applications with a plastic throttle tube. Because carburetor designs and throttle slides vary by model, dimensions and compatibility must be carefully checked before installation.

What Does a Carburetor Membrane Do?

In a constant-vacuum carburetor, the throttle slide is not opened solely by the throttle cable. The membrane responds to the vacuum in the carburetor and partly determines how far the throttle slide lifts. This allows the fuel supply to be controlled in relation to airflow and engine load.

A small tear or hole can disrupt this function. The throttle slide may no longer lift sufficiently, causing the engine to hesitate during acceleration or fail to reach full power. If you experience such issues, also check the rest of the carburetor, fuel supply, vacuum hoses, and ignition before concluding that only the membrane is faulty.

Replacing the Original Membrane

During installation, the damaged original membrane is removed from the throttle slide. Any existing plastic sealing ring(s) must also be removed according to the product instructions. Then the edge is carefully prepared, and the new membrane is placed in the correct position over the throttle slide.

Always check the fit before gluing the membrane. Pay special attention to the position of the vent hole and compare it carefully with the original part’s installation. Once glued or adjusted, the membrane cannot be moved without consequences.

Careful Installation Prevents New Damage

Use only a small amount of suitable glue and avoid getting glue on the moving part of the throttle slide. After installation, the slide must be able to move freely. Also avoid sharp edges that could damage the new membrane.

Do not stretch the material more than necessary and install the membrane only as prescribed. For engines with multiple carburetors, check how many membranes are needed. The product is sold individually and intended for one carburetor.
