Polishing Compounds for Paint Correction, Shine, and Metal Maintenance

Choose the right compound or polish to remove paint defects and restore clarity and shine

Polishing Compounds contain fine abrasive ingredients that refine a very thin and controlled part of the surface. This can reduce light scratches, swirls, holograms, oxidation, and dull spots. The polish you need depends on the material, the severity of the damage, and the desired final result.

  • Coarse compounds for visible paint defects and oxidation
  • Medium polish for light scratches and wax scratches
  • Finishing polish for maximum clarity and shine
  • One-step products for correction and finishing in one treatment
  • Special polishing compounds for chrome, Stainless steel, and aluminum

In this collection, you will find paint polishing compounds from Monello and Chemical Guys and metal polish from, among others, D-Con and Mothers. A product for clear coat is not automatically suitable for untreated aluminum or chrome. Therefore, always select based on the surface you want to treat.

The ultimate correction power is determined by the combination of polishing compound, pad, machine, speed, pressure, and working time. The same polish can provide significantly more correction with a firm pad than with a soft finishing pad.

Compound, polish, and finishing polish

A compound is intended for the first correction step and tackles deeper wax scratches, oxidation, and dull paint. Because this step can leave a less fine finish, it is often followed by a medium or fine polish.

A finishing polish removes light haze and holograms and refines the paint to a clear shine. When the paint is only slightly damaged, a medium or one-step polish may be sufficient.

One-step polishing compound

A one-step product combines correction and finish in one working step. This is practical when you want to reduce light to moderate defects without performing a full multi-step process.

The result depends heavily on the paint and chosen pad. Hard paint may require more correction, while soft paint reaches a fine finish faster but can also be more sensitive to new holograms.

Polishing compound for metal

Chrome, Stainless steel, copper, and untreated aluminum require a product specifically developed for metal. Metal polish helps remove oxidation, deposits, and light discoloration and can be applied both manually and mechanically.

Always test in an inconspicuous spot. Do not use aggressive metal polish on painted, anodized, matte, or specially coated parts without checking if it is safe.

Always work with a test spot

Start with the mildest combination of polish and pad. Make a small test area, remove the residue, and check the result under good lighting.

Polishing does not remove damage that goes completely through the clear coat. When in doubt, check the paint thickness and avoid sharp edges, stickers, and thinly sprayed parts. After polishing, reapply wax, sealant, or coating.
