Brake Fluid

Brake Fluid for a Reliable Hydraulic Brake System

Use the prescribed brake fluid to maintain a firm pressure point when braking and suitable hydraulic clutches

Brake fluid transmits the force from the brake master cylinder through the brake lines to the brake calipers. The fluid must withstand high pressure and temperature without compressing significantly or boiling. In various motorcycles, the same type of fluid is also used for a hydraulic clutch.

  • Suitable for brake systems that require the specified DOT standard
  • Applicable in suitable hydraulic clutch systems
  • Important for a firm and consistent pressure point
  • For replacement, bleeding, and maintenance
  • Brake and clutch fluid from specialized brands

In this collection, you will find fluid for motorcycle brake systems and suitable hydraulic clutches. Always check the label on the reservoir, the manual, and the master cylinder before choosing a product.

Never rely solely on the color of the old fluid to determine the type. The color can vary due to age, contamination, and manufacturer differences.

DOT 3, DOT 4, and Other Specifications

DOT 3 and DOT 4 are used in many motorcycle brake systems. The appropriate specification is determined by the manufacturer of the motorcycle and brake components.

Do not use other fluids just because they appear to have a higher rating without first checking compatibility. Especially DOT 5 silicone-based fluid should not be mixed arbitrarily with conventional glycol-based brake fluids.

Do Not Confuse with Mineral Clutch Oil

Some hydraulic clutch systems use mineral oil instead of DOT brake fluid. The seals in these systems are designed for the specified fluid type.

Never fill DOT brake fluid into a system designed for mineral oil, and do not use mineral fluid in a brake system that requires DOT fluid. Using the wrong fluid can damage seals and cause failure.

Brake Fluid Absorbs Moisture

Conventional brake fluid absorbs moisture from the environment over time. This can lower the boiling point and cause a soft or inconsistent pressure point under heavy braking.

Replace the fluid according to the maintenance schedule of the motorcycle manufacturer. Always use fluid from a well-sealed container and do not store an opened bottle indefinitely.

Filling and Bleeding

Prevent brake fluid from coming into contact with paint, carbon, or plastic. Cover surrounding parts and immediately clean up any spilled fluid according to the product instructions.

After filling, all air must be removed from the hydraulic system. Check for leaks and a firm pressure point before riding. If in doubt, have brake maintenance performed by a specialist.
