Oil

Choose the right oil for the specific application and maintain reliable operation of the engine components

A motorcycle does not only use engine oil. The front fork, transmission, hydraulic clutch, and other technical systems may also require their own fluid with specific properties. The right oil provides lubrication, damping, or hydraulic pressure and should never be chosen solely based on color or general designation.

  • Specialist oil for various motorcycle systems
  • Front fork oil in multiple viscosities
  • Mineral fluid for suitable hydraulic clutches
  • Products for maintenance, overhaul, and adjustment
  • Technical fluids from Putoline

In this collection, you will find different types of oil for motorcycle work. The range includes synthetic front fork oil for overhaul and adjustment of the suspension and mineral hydraulic fluid for systems where this type of oil is explicitly prescribed.

These products are technically not interchangeable. Front fork oil has different properties than engine oil, and mineral clutch fluid must not be replaced by DOT brake fluid if the system is not designed for it.

Front fork oil and viscosity

Front fork oil flows through small channels and shim stacks in the front fork, affecting the damping. A different viscosity can change the speed at which the suspension compresses and rebounds.

Choose the viscosity and oil quantity according to the data from the motorcycle or suspension manufacturer. The designations of different oil brands are not always directly comparable. Therefore, do not mix different products or viscosities without technical justification.

Mineral oil for hydraulic clutches

Certain Magura and KTM clutch systems use mineral hydraulic fluid. Other systems use DOT brake fluid. The seals are matched to the prescribed fluid type.

Never use DOT brake fluid in a system designed for mineral oil or vice versa. The wrong fluid can damage seals and cause leakage or clutch failure. Always check the reservoir, manual, and product specifications.

Work clean and prevent mixing

Use clean fillers, catch pans, and tools for each technical fluid. Residues of another product can affect the properties of the new oil.

Adhere to the prescribed fill quantity, fluid level, and bleeding procedure. Dispose of used oil and fluids at a suitable collection point and avoid contact with paint, tires, brake parts, and the environment.
