Water pump covers and water pump protectors for engines
Finish the water pump with high quality or add additional protection to a vulnerable area of the engine block
The water pump circulates coolant through the engine block and radiator. On various engines, the housing protrudes from the side of the engine block, making it susceptible to stone chips, boots, or contact during a fall.
- Carbon covers for a high-quality engine block finish
- Aluminium protectors for selected vulnerable pump housings
- Model-specific fit and mounting
- Versions from Ilmberger CarbonParts and Lightech
- Can be combined with other engine block covers
This collection includes different product types. A carbon water pump cover covers or replaces a visible outer finishing part. An aluminium water pump protector provides a sturdier additional layer around the original housing.
Carbon water pump cover
Ilmberger CarbonParts manufactures model-specific covers from prepreg carbon. The parts are cured under pressure and temperature and delivered ready for installation.
The cover gives the water pump area the same high-quality appearance as other carbon parts around the engine block, stator cover, and clutch.
Aluminium water pump protector
A Lightech water pump protector is designed for engines where the original pump housing protrudes relatively far. The aluminium construction adds an extra contact layer around this vulnerable position.
The exact protective effect depends on the direction of the fall, speed, and surface. No cover can prevent the pump housing from being damaged in every fall.
Check which part you are ordering
The terms water pump cover, water pump cap, and water pump protector are not always used for the same type of product. Therefore, check the mounting position and construction.
A thin carbon cover is mainly a finishing part, while a milled or shaped metal protector is more focused on impact protection.
Do not open the coolant circuit
Many outer covers can be mounted without opening the water pump housing itself. Check this in advance in the installation manual.
When bolts of the pump housing are removed, a new gasket may be needed and the cooling system may need to be drained and bled.
Installation and inspection
Allow the engine block to cool completely before working around the water pump. Install the part without tension and use all prescribed spacers and bolts.
After installation, check for coolant leaks and sufficient clearance around the exhaust, fairing parts, and hoses.
