Air Filters for Clean Intake Air and Reliable Engine Performance
Protect the engine block from dirt and choose an air filter that suits your engine, usage, and maintenance preferences
An engine block constantly needs sufficient clean air. The air filter blocks dust, sand, insects, and other contaminants before they can enter the engine block through the intake. A suitable and well-maintained filter helps limit internal wear and supports stable engine operation.
- Model-specific air filters for a proper seal
- Direct replacement filters and performance versions
- Filters from MWR and HifloFiltro
- Reusable versions that can be cleaned and re-oiled
- Individual filters and model-specific filter sets available
In this collection, you will find various types of engine air filters. HifloFiltro offers direct replacement filters for selected engines. These are designed to be placed in the original position within the standard air filter housing.
MWR also offers performance filters and special filter sets for a variety of engines. Depending on the model, this may involve one central filter, two separate filters, or a set with replacement filter holders.
Standard Replacement Filter or Performance Filter
A standard replacement filter is a logical choice for regular maintenance and restoring the original filter function. A performance filter may have a different construction and airflow and is often chosen for sporty use or in combination with other modifications.
More airflow does not automatically mean that every engine will immediately deliver more power. The final result depends on the complete intake, exhaust, engine tuning, and engine management.
A Good Seal Is Essential
The filter material is only one part of the protection. The filter must also fit perfectly onto the air filter housing or filter holder. If air can pass along the edge, unfiltered contaminants can still reach the engine block.
Therefore, check the sealing edge, filter holder, and closure of the air filter box during installation. Remove dirt around the mounting area before removing the old filter from the engine.
Maintenance of a Reusable MWR Filter
Reusable filters must be cleaned periodically and treated again with the designated filter oil. A dry or improperly maintained filter may provide insufficient protection.
Use suitable MWR filter cleaner and filter oil, and allow the filter to dry completely after cleaning before applying new oil. Distribute the oil evenly and avoid dry spots or excessive saturation.
Check Model and Engine Configuration
Always choose an air filter based on the exact engine model, year of manufacture, and the existing air filter box. For older engines, check if the original filter holders are still present.
When making modifications to the air filter, air filter box, or exhaust, it may be wise to check the fuel adjustment. If in doubt, have this assessed by a motorcycle specialist or with a test bench measurement.
