I am a carbon part and today I will take you on my journey through the production process at Ilmberger Carbon. From a simple fiber mat to a finished high-performance motorcycle part – this is my story.
Carbon fiber is ultra-strong and extremely light – perfect for applications where performance matters. At Ilmberger, only prepreg carbon is used: carbon fibers already impregnated with resin for an optimal balance between stiffness and weight.
Using a computer-controlled Zünd cutting plotter, the carbon mats are precisely cut in layers. Each part consists of multiple fiber directions for maximum strength in all directions, with minimal material waste.
Each layer is hand-laid in a CNC-milled mold. The position of each fiber is crucial: for both strength and visual perfection. Large parts require hours of work – this is craftsmanship at a master level.
The part and mold go together into a vacuum bag and then into an autoclave. Under high pressure and temperature, the part cures perfectly. The result: maximum strength, minimal air inclusions, optimal finish.
After curing, a precision machining is done by a robotic arm. Openings, edges, and details are milled to the hundredth of a millimeter for a perfect fit and assembly on the motorcycle.
What makes Ilmberger unique is the exclusive plastic powder coating over the entire surface – resistant to UV fading, scratch-resistant, and visually superior. This process is technically complex and is applied in series by only a few.
Finally, the carbon part receives a high-quality paint finish – glossy or matte – depending on the style. Each piece is hand-polished until it meets the highest finishing standards.
After a final quality check, I am allowed to leave the factory – ready to be part of a top motorcycle. Every part that leaves Ilmberger guarantees craftsmanship, technology, and absolute precision.
