Quickshifter

Quickshifters and blippers for faster and smoother shifting

Shift while accelerating without using the clutch and choose a system that fits your motorcycle, shift pattern, and riding style

A quickshifter allows you to upshift while riding without using the clutch and without fully closing the throttle. A sensor detects the force on the shift rod, after which the system briefly interrupts the ignition or fuel injection. This temporarily reduces the load on the gearbox, allowing the next gear to be engaged faster.

  • Faster upshifting without using the clutch
  • Up-and-down systems with blipper function available
  • Load-cell sensors for precise force measurement
  • Push and pull configurations for standard and race shifting
  • Model-specific systems from IRC and CNC Racing

In this collection, you will find both simple upshift quickshifters and complete blipper systems. CNC Racing offers universal and model-specific quickshifters with a load-cell sensor. IRC’s range includes comprehensive systems for various Ducati, Aprilia, BMW, Kawasaki, KTM, MV Agusta, and Yamaha models.

Always check what the chosen product supports. A quickshifter designed only for upshifting does not automatically add a blipper function for downshifting. Also, the terms push or pull only indicate the direction in which the sensor is loaded.

Quickshifter or up-and-down blipper

A traditional quickshifter briefly interrupts the drive during upshifting. This allows you to select a higher gear under acceleration without first pulling in the clutch.

An up-and-down quickshifter adds a blipper function. When downshifting, the system electronically briefly opens the throttle valves or provides a similar throttle blip, so the engine speed better matches the lower gear.

A blipper function is technically more complex and requires compatibility with the engine management and electronic throttle control. Not every motorcycle can be converted to clutchless downshifting with just a different shift sensor.

Load cell, push and pull

A load-cell sensor measures the force applied to the shift rod during shifting. This allows the shift moment to be accurately detected, regardless of small differences in movement or adjustment.

In a push configuration, the sensor is pressed during shifting. In a pull configuration, it is pulled apart. Which direction is needed depends on the position of the shift lever, shift rod, and any brake shift set.

Some systems can be set for both directions, but this does not automatically apply to every sensor. Always check the shift pattern and product specifications.

Standard shifting or race shifting

With a standard shift pattern, you downshift to first gear and upshift through the other gears. In race shifting, also called GP shift, this movement is reversed.

A reversed shift pattern can change the direction in which the quickshifter sensor is loaded. For certain Ducati models, special quickshifter cables are available that invert the sensor signal. Check whether the chosen quickshifter and cable are suitable for your brake shift set and shift direction.

Plug-and-play is always model-specific

Many IRC and CNC Racing systems come with a model-specific wiring harness and matching connectors. Plug-and-play in this case means the set can be connected within the specified application without cutting the original wiring harness.

It does not mean the same kit fits every model. ECU control, number of cylinders, connectors, electronic throttle control, and original quickshifter functions vary by motorcycle and model year.

Installation and adjustment

The sensor must be correctly mounted on the shift rod and must not touch the frame, engine block, or fairing parts. Also check if a shift rod of a different length is needed.

Adjust shift force, interruption time, and any blipper values only according to the manufacturer’s instructions. An incorrectly adjusted quickshifter can cause harsh shifting or unnecessarily stress the gearbox. Test the system carefully after installation and have installation and adjustment done by an experienced specialist if in doubt.
