Engine Protector

Engine Case Protectors for Vulnerable Parts Under and in Front of the Engine

Reduce the direct impact of stone chips, road debris, and light contact on valuable engine components

The engine is located close to the front wheel and the road surface. Stones, dirt, and other debris can therefore reach cylinder heads, crankcase parts, and other vulnerable components. A model-specific engine case protector or bashplate provides an extra barrier between these parts and external influences.

  • Helps protect exposed engine parts from stone chips and dirt
  • Model-specific shape for a neat and stable installation
  • Use of existing mounting points on suitable versions
  • Choice of aluminum guards and carbon bashplates
  • CrashProtection solutions from Evotech Performance and Ilmberger CarbonParts

This collection includes various types of engine case protectors. Evotech Performance offers, among others, aluminum guards for the front of the engine or the cylinder head. These parts feature openings that allow cooling air to continue flowing while making it harder for larger stones and road debris to reach the underlying component.

Additionally, there are carbon bashplates from Ilmberger CarbonParts for selected adventure motorcycles. These parts combine a model-specific finish on the underside with light protection against dirt and contact during normal use.

Engine Case Guard or Bashplate

An engine case guard is usually mounted in front of a specific vulnerable part, such as a cylinder head or a lower part of the engine. A bashplate covers a larger area underneath and is also called a crankcase protector or skid plate.

Which solution is most suitable depends on the construction and use of the motorcycle. A sport or touring bike often needs a compact guard against flying road debris, while an adventure bike can benefit from a larger finishing and protective part under the engine.

CrashProtection Without Unproven Guarantees

An engine case protector can help reduce the chance of direct damage but cannot guarantee that the engine will remain undamaged in every fall, collision, or heavy impact. Its effectiveness depends on the material, shape, mounting position, and the force and angle of the impact.

A carbon bashplate should not automatically be considered a heavy metal offroad skid plate. Always check for which use the manufacturer has developed the specific product.

Model-Specific Mounting and Sufficient Clearance

The protector must fit the exact motorcycle model, year, and the existing exhaust and engine construction. Also check whether the product can be combined with a radiator cover, crash bars, center stand, or aftermarket exhaust system.

After installation, there must be sufficient clearance from the exhaust, oil filter, lines, and moving parts. Check that all fastenings are properly tightened and that maintenance points remain accessible. If in doubt, have the installation carried out by an experienced motorcycle specialist.
